This project is completed but I am now working on a sister project also funded by BEIS (UK Government’s Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy). We analysed some of the key research questions related to the implementation of the UN Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 and made a major UK contribution to the IPCC 1.5C Special Report.

HELIX is an EU-funded collaborative research project assessing the potential impacts of climate change. Scientists from 16 organisations worldwide have worked together to develop a number of future scenarios of the natural and human world as a consequence of 1.5°C, 2°C, 4°C and 6°C global warming.

Towards a culture of low-carbon research for the 21st Century

The research community has highlighted for several decades the implications of greenhouse gas emissions for climate change. In response, world governments have agreed to limit global temperature change to 2°C, which requires drastic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. In advanced economies, a commitment to a 2°C limit generally represents a reduction of emissions of between 80-95% from the 1990 baseline.
